A panel from old furniture.

On the support of Armchair and the resistance that remains in the paint.

I painted Armchair on reclaimed MDF from a piece of 1970s furniture. I chose its rough reverse. The material already had a past before the figure and interior appeared on it.

The support absorbed enormous amounts of paint. Each application met its uneven surface rather than disappearing into a smooth finish. That resistance became part of the work. Up close, you can see tool marks, layers showing through and places where colour changes with the texture.

The history of an object and the history of the scene meet in a single physical work. The green armchair travelled between the homes of Wrocław artists. The panel on which I painted it also came from a domestic interior.

A reproduction shows the composition. Details let you come closer: to see the edge, the surface and the way paint holds onto the material. This is part of the painting worth discovering alongside its story.
